Can you create a folder named “con”, “prn”, “nul” “com1″ “com2″ “lpt1″ etc. in windows ?

The answer is NO and YES!
NO because when create a new folder and try to rename it to any one of the above specified names, you know what happens! In Windows XP the folder name automatically changes back to “New Folder” no matter you try any number of times. Where as in Windows Vista/7 when you try to rename the file you get an error message “The specified device name is invalid”.
What is the reason for this? Simple, these names represent the internal devices and hence we cannot create folders with the above names.
 YES because it is possible by using to different methods

      1. Right click on desktop
      2. Make new folder
      3. Type CON and ALT+255.

    OR
      1. Goto command prompt
      2. Type in prompt e:\> "mkdir \\.\e:\con"
      3. Verify by typing "dir \\.\e:\con"
      4. Delete the file or folder "rmdir \\.\e:\con"

So This is How you can easily make Folders with name "CON" , "COM1", "LPT1" etc :)

Create a password protected folder without any special software

To create a password protected folder without any special software you need to know about how to create a invisible folder i had already told this in my previous post
http://amitgadget.blogspot.com/2010/12/create-folder-without-name-in-windows.html

Now, here we will see how to create a folder that will not just be invisible, but also require a password to reveal it and open it. The best part is that you don’t need any special software to do this. Just plain old Notepad is all that you need.
Here is the code that you need:
cls
@ECHO OFF
title Folder Personal
if EXIST “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}” goto UNLOCK
if NOT EXIST Personal goto MDLOCKER
:CONFIRM
echo Are you sure u want to Lock the folder(Y/N)
set/p “cho=>”
if %cho%==Y goto LOCK
if %cho%==y goto LOCK
if %cho%==n goto END
if %cho%==N goto END
echo Invalid choice.
goto CONFIRM
:LOCK
ren Personal “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}”
attrib +h +s “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}”
echo Folder locked
goto End
:UNLOCK
echo Enter password to Unlock folder
set/p “pass=>”
if NOT %pass%==pwd123 HERE goto FAIL
attrib -h -s “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}”
ren “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}” Personal
echo Folder Unlocked successfully
goto End
:FAIL
echo Invalid password
goto end
:MDLOCKER
md Personal
echo Personal created successfully
goto End
:End
Now here is what you need to do:
Just copy the above code and paste it into Notepad. Save it by giving it any name you choose. Assuming, the file is called secret.txt, change the extension to ‘.bat‘ so that the new name becomes secret.bat. What you get is a batch file. You could actually save one step by saving the file in Notepad directly as secret.bat by enclosing the file name like this: “secret.bat” . This batch file is the one that you need. You can edit this batch file to change the folder name and the password. To change the name of the folder that is created, change the ‘Personal’ (in bold in the above code) to any another name you choose. Likewise change the ‘pwd123′ (in red in the code) to anything else.
Now let’s see how to use it. Place the file in the location where you would like to create your protected folder. Run the batch file by double clicking on it. This will create a folder named Personal in the same location as the batch file. You can now open this folder and place any files in it. Once you are finished, run the batch file again. You will be asked whether you want to lock the folder. Entry ‘Y’ (for Yes) and hit Enter. The folder becomes invisible. To retrieve the folder, run the batch file again. You will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password, hit enter and voila! the folder appears.
Important: The batch file acts like a key to open the locked folder. So once you have created and locked a folder, do not keep the batch file in the same location since anybody can open the batch file and view your password. So I would suggest that you keep the batch file in a separate and safe place or better still keep it on your pen drive or flash drive. That way when you want to open the folder just copy the batch file to the location where you have your protected folder and run it.
Do remember that the above method is not intended to act as a substitute for the numerous free and commercial softwares that are specifically designed to provide security and encryption to your data.
Update: I got comments saying the code does not work. Of course I did check it before posting it here. But I have identified the problem. The problem is with the straight double quotes used in the code in this post. Once you copy the code you would also need to change each of the double quotes with your keyboard double quotes. That might seem a lot of work for some. So I thought it would be easier to give away the batch file itself. You can download the file here. (Use right-click and ‘Save Target as’ or ‘Save Link as’).

Create a folder without name in Windows XP

This is not a super high-tech geeky trick but it just a short and simple trick on how you can create a folder without name in Windows XP.
When each time you create a new folder in Windows XP, Microsoft has made “New Folder” as the default name. Even you enter the spacebar so many times to create blank spaces, it still will generate the “New Folder” text like this.
newfolder-01.gif
So, how you can create a folder like this?
newfolder-02.gif
No, it is not a Photoshop trick. I did not edit the first image. Lol… Here is how.
To do this trick, you need a keyboard with numpad. To rename the folder with blank spaces, just press Alt + 255 and hit Enter. Then you are successfully creating a folder without name in Windows XP.
But, make sure to press the numbers from the numpad and not from the numbers below the F1 – F12 keys. And take note that you only can create one folder without name in a directory.

you can use this trick to amaze your friends

Call of Duty: Black Ops

black ops Call of Duty: Black Ops Review

The next installment of the Call of Duty is finally here after a long wait. Does Black Ops fill the boots of the other call of duty games, or does it fall flat on its face? There are some minor issues in the game, but that’s not to say that you won’t be blown away by it. In the Black Ops campaign you start as Alex Mason, a soldier who is being interrogated for information on numbers that are being broadcast that have something to do with a terror plot on the world.
The story is quite hard to follow at the start and you may not know what is going on. But near the middle and defiantly by the end you will understand what you have been doing this whole time. The campaign layout is relatively the same to the other Call of Duty game like modern warfare 2 where you shoot up the bad guys and complete objectives. However I found the campaign to be a lot more intuitive and fun.

The enemy’s intelligence has also improved. For example, in World at War the enemy would just stand in front of you and wait to be shot. But now if they are hit in the leg or see you coming the will run for the nearest cover. The campaign also lets you drive some vehicles like helicopters, motorbikes and boats which give the game a lot more interactivity instead of just hoping in the back seat and shooting a gun. You will also meet some friendly faces from previous call of duties. Overall I think Treyarch have built a well-rounded campaign with lots to do and unique characters.
